TAKE ACTION

For current students:

  1. Sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/williams-college-curricular-planning-committee-establish-asian-american-studies-at-williams-college

  2. Attend our meetings at 2:00-3:00pm on Saturdays in Zilhka Center Living Room to learn more and get involved. We are currently looking for more organizers to help plan action for this spring. Any and all students are welcome. If you cannot make this time, please contact us at asamcommittee@gmail.com.

  3. Read and distribute the following report as widely as possible: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fThoXu6xPI0tKD8BzsM4HhPUkQ6VOxQn/view?usp=sharing

For alumni:

  1. Sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/williams-college-curricular-planning-committee-establish-asian-american-studies-at-williams-college

  2. Contact us at asamcommittee@gmail.com if you are interested in learning more about the movement. We are hoping to hold teach-ins for alumni about the movement, its history, and the process towards establishing Asian American Studies.

  3. Email President Mandel, Dean Buell, and Provost Love with a statement in support of the recent CPC Working Group’s Report (linked here) on AAS, recommending two immediate hires and a third hire after program formation.

For faculty:

  1. Sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/williams-college-curricular-planning-committee-establish-asian-american-studies-at-williams-college

  2. The establishment of Asian American Studies will eventually be confirmed by a full faculty vote. Please complete the form at the bottom of this page indicating your support for Asian American Studies.

  3. Continue to reach out to your peers and express support for Asian American Studies, as well as connecting skeptical faculty members with us at asamcommittee@gmail.com.

For trustees:

  1. Sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/williams-college-curricular-planning-committee-establish-asian-american-studies-at-williams-college

  2. While trustees do not have direct voting control over the establishment of Asian American Studies, please note that every hire and program must be confirmed by the Committee on Appointments & Promotions (CAP). This committee ALWAYS includes the Dean of the Faculty (Denise Buell), the President (Maud Mandel), and the Provost (David Love). The Board of Trustees has immense sway over this governing body; your demonstrated support to those key members of the CAP will be vital for the establishment of Asian American Studies.

  3. Email President Mandel, Dean Buell, and Provost Love with a statement in support of the recent CPC Working Group’s Report (linked here) on AAS, recommending two immediate hires and a third hire after program formation.

  4. Help establish a liaison between the movement and the Board of Trustees so that we can best provide information, answer questions, and share more ways that trustees can support the cause throughout this year and further.
